On August 26, 2014, Health Canada approved the use of SalmoFresh™ as a processing aid for various foods in Canada, in all jurisdictions recognized by Health Canada for the purposes of the iLONO policy. The Agency issued an Interim Letter of No Objection (iLONO) for the use of SalmoFresh™ as an antimicrobial treatment to control of Salmonella on fish, shellfish, and fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, as well as on ready-to-eat poultry products prior to slicing and on raw poultry prior to grinding or after grinding.
SalmoFresh™ is an antimicrobial preparation for controlling the foodborne bacterial pathogen Salmonella enterica. It has been developed and is manufactured by Intralytix, Inc., for treating foods that are at high risk for Salmonella contamination. In the United States, SalmoFresh™ received GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) affirmation from the FDA in 2013 (GRAS Notice No. GRN 000435), for direct applications onto poultry, fish and shellfish, and fresh and processed fruits and vegetables; it is also included in FSIS Directive 7120.1 as safe and suitable antimicrobial for use in the production of poultry products as a processing aid. SalmoFresh™ is an all-natural product. It is Star K-certified Kosher and IFANCA-certified Halal product. It is also OMRI-listed as a suitable ingredient in the production of organic foods.
